Feeling worn down?

You rely on your body every day.

Long hours, heavy work, tight deadlines, early starts, it all adds up.

Often people in our industry try to push through it. A bad back, constant aches, feeling run down. You tell yourself it’s part of the job, that you’ll deal with it later.

Small issues often get bigger if you ignore them.

Looking after your body is about spotting when something’s off and doing something about it before it gets worse.

What to check in on

Noticing changes in your body is about assessing how you feel day-to-day and whether the same issues keep reoccurring.

  • Ongoing pain that doesn’t ease off

  • Constant tiredness or poor sleep

  • Injuries that keep coming back

  • Changes in weight or appetite

  • Feeling run down more often than usual

If something feels different, there’s usually a reason.

What can help

You only get one body, it’s important to prioritise looking after it.

  • Take breaks when your body needs it, not just when the job allows

  • Don’t ignore pain, get it checked early

  • Keep moving outside of work, light stretching or a short walk can help

  • Eat properly, especially on long days

  • Prioritise getting proper rest

If something feels different, there’s usually a reason.

When it’s more than just wear and tear

If you’re dealing with illness, injury, or something that’s stopping you working or living normally, it can hit hard. Physically, mentally, and financially.

The Electrical Industries Charity can help if you’re struggling with your health or dealing with something unexpected. That might mean practical support, financial help, or someone to talk to when things feel like they’re getting on top of you.

Don’t wait until you’re forced to stop

The earlier you act, the easier it is to deal with.

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t brush it off. Check in, take it seriously, and get support if you need it.

Keeping Your Body Working

Safe isolation: when something goes wrong, the consequences are immediate

Safe isolation: when something goes wrong, the consequences are immediate Everyone working on electrical systems knows the process, it’s standard practice. The risk sits in how it is carried out and what happens when it’s rushed. A circuit is switched off and assumed to be dead, or incorrect labelling is trusted without being verified, a [...]
