Got a lot on your mind?

Running jobs, chasing payments, sorting paperwork, keeping work coming in.

Then there’s everything else outside of work.

It builds up.

Most people just get on with it until something gives.

Checking in with your mind is about catching that early, not when it’s already gone too far.

The EIC Contractor MOT is here to help you stay on the road.

What to look out for

You don’t need to tick every box, you just need to notice when something’s not right.

  • Snapping at people or getting wound up over small things

  • Can’t switch off, even when the job’s done

  • Head constantly busy, going over the same problems

  • Struggling to focus or make simple decisions

  • Feeling flat, fed up or just not yourself

  • Avoiding calls, messages or people

  • Drinking more, smoking more, relying on something to take the edge off

  • Not sleeping properly or always knackered

  • Turning up to work ill or pushing through when you shouldn’t

  • Losing confidence or second guessing yourself

If that’s been going on for a while, it’s not just a bad week.

Don’t ignore it

You tell yourself it’s just part of the job.

You push through.

You tell yourself you will deal with it later.

Later usually means when it’s worse.

Spotting it early gives you a chance to get back on top before it starts affecting your work, your money, or your home life

What you can do now

Start with small things that can take the pressure off:

  • Get your head out of the noise, even for 10 minutes

  • Go for a walk and leave your phone at home, or put it on silent

  • Talk to someone you trust, and don’t just say “yeah I’m fine”; try and open up

  • Cut back on whatever you’re using to cope if it’s creeping up

  • Write things down if your head won’t switch off

It might feel like this won’t solve your problems, but it’s about proving to yourself change is possible.
