Jon Dennis’ Giant Challenge of 2025

In 2025, Jon Dennis set himself a Giant Challenge to complete a mix of 5k and 10k running, cycling, and triathlon events to raise funds for the Electrical Industries Charity.
Jon heard of the work the EIC did for those struggling in our industry through his employer, Certsure/NICEIC.
“We see and hear stories of the great work that the EIC does for people in our industry, At the last conference they asked if we could raise money. So I thought I would give it a go”, says Jon.
Jon went on to complete a total of 20 challenges throughout the year. He says the most difficult part was getting himself physically ready for the challenges,
“I am 6ft5, 53 years old and not exactly an athlete. The most difficult thing was getting into a condition where I could complete the challenges. The Triathlons were extremely hard, but the 62-mile Manchester to Blackpool bike ride was just so tough. I was hanging on till the finish”, he says.
His advice to anyone thinking of taking on a similar challenge in 2026 is to plan carefully and allow for flexibility.
“My 20 events started quite easily and then, thanks to weather and injury, it became quite tense at the end,” he explains.
The most rewarding part of the Giant Challenge was the support and encouragement he received from family, friends, and industry colleagues along the way. In particular, he’d like to thank his wife, Louise, who was “a constant supporter,” and Emma Chase from Certsure “who really waved the flag for raising money”.
