Philip, Gary, and Simon Take on the Lakes in a Day Marathon

In October, the tenacious trio Philip Holt, Gary Mackie, and Simon Johnson took on an epic ultra marathon through the stunning peaks and valleys of the Lake District to raise funds for the Electrical Industries Charity.
The three ran 54 miles from the very top of the Lake District at Caldbeck, to the very bottom of the lakes at Cartmel, all in under 24 hours!
Lakes in a Day is one of the UK’s most demanding ultra marathons, traversing the full length of the national park via the Helvellyn Ridge, with 4,000m of ascent across some of England’s wildest mountain terrain.
This was no small feat, and not one for beginners! The trio were required to be well-versed in navigation, with previous experience on mountains a must-have.
After months of training, the three headed off in the early hours of the morning for an incredible journey through the rugged terrain of the Lakes District. they were greeted by some spectacular views and a test of endurance that they are sure not to forget any time soon.
Crossing that late-night finish line was all worth it for the fantastic £3,638 they raised for the Electrical Industries Charity.
Philip, Gary, and Simon’s story is a testament to what can be achieved when you unite towards a shared purpose.
