A to Z of Fundraising

Looking for more ideas? Browse our full A to Z below to spark inspiration for your fundraising activity.

How much exercise can you squeeze into 24 hours? Run, cycle, swim, walk, lift or mix it up. The only rule is to keep moving.

Give your voice a well-earned day off. Stay silent for 24 hours and get friends, family or colleagues to sponsor your suspiciously peaceful day.

Get the cakes, biscuits and caffeine flowing. Sell homemade treats and turn a little something sweet into a lot of something worthwhile.

Get competitive over Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo or whatever your game of choice is. Charge an entry fee and let the battle commence.

Put your gloves on and raise some cash in the ring. Organise a boxing challenge, sparring session or even a charity bout.

Ready for a change? Shave your head, beard or something in between and get sponsored for taking the plunge.

Throw yourself into fundraising, quite literally. Take the leap, raise some money and try not to think too much about what you’re about to do.

Pick a challenge that means something to you and put a fundraising target behind it. Big, small, sensible or slightly ridiculous, it’s up to you.

Give your wardrobe a refresh without spending a penny. Ask everyone to bring pre-loved clothes, charge a small entry fee and swap away.

Get the laughs going with a comedy or improv night. Book a venue, find some brave performers and charge for entry.

Get creative for a good cause. Gather your paints, pens, wool or whatever else takes your fancy and make a day of it.

Get on your bike and turn the miles into money. Set yourself a distance, pick a route and get pedalling.

Step away from the screen and put your phone down for a good cause. Get sponsored to go offline for a set amount of time.

Take your fundraising on tour. Trek, cycle, run or hike your way across another country and make the adventure count for something.

Swap your usual workwear for something a little more interesting. Charge everyone a few pounds to dress up, dress down or go completely over the top.

Give the booze a miss for a month and get sponsored while you’re at it. Your fundraising will be healthier than your usual Friday night.

Get together for an evening of questionable outfits, questionable songs and very serious voting. Charge for entry, add a sweepstake or sell some snacks.

Pick a favourite film, find a screen and settle in. Charge for tickets and add popcorn, drinks or a raffle to boost the total.

Definitely not your average sponsored walk. Take on the hot coals and raise money by doing something that makes everyone else say, “You’re actually going to do that?”

Round up some teams and settle the score on the pitch. Charge an entry fee, add some refreshments and see who takes home the trophy.

Cards, consoles, board games or anything else that gets people competing. Charge an entry fee and let the games begin.

Get a group together for a day on the course. Add team entry fees, sponsorships, competitions and prizes for a fundraising day with a little friendly rivalry.

Put down the razor and see what happens. Set a target, get sponsored and let your beard or moustache do the fundraising.

Not quite ready for the full 26.2 miles? A half marathon is still a serious challenge and a great excuse to get training.

You don’t have to run it. Walk 13.1 or 26.2 miles, get some friends involved and turn a long day on your feet into a fundraising challenge.

Donate an hour of your wages to support a cause you care about. Easy to organise, easy to take part in and every contribution counts.

Grab the microphone and embrace your inner pop star. Charge for entry, take song requests for donations or simply see who is brave enough to go first.

Get your walking shoes on and, if you’re feeling particularly brave, your kilt. Walk the distance, raise some money and enjoy the spectacle.

Pack your bags and put one foot in front of the other. Take on a multi-day trek somewhere spectacular and turn the adventure into a fundraising mission.

26.2 miles, one very big challenge. Train hard, find your supporters and make every mile worth it.

Pick a mountain, set a target and start climbing. The view at the top is even better when you’ve raised money along the way.

Why stop at one? Set yourself a series of challenges across the year and build your fundraising total one achievement at a time.

Gather your suspects, put on your detective hat and work out whodunnit. Charge for tickets and make an evening of it.

Bring out the competitive side of your colleagues with a workplace baking showdown. Charge to enter, charge to taste and let the judging begin.

Pick your poison and set yourself a target. How long can you hold a plank or how many press-ups can you manage? Get sponsored and find out.

Everyone brings a dish, everyone gets to eat it and everyone chips in for charity. Just hope Dave doesn’t turn up with another supermarket quiche.

Clear out your cupboards and turn forgotten treasures into fundraising gold. Sell clothes, books, homeware and vintage finds for a good cause.

Turn the volume down and get sponsored for staying quiet. Even better, ask people to donate to make you break the silence.

Round up some teams, write some fiendishly difficult questions and see who knows their stuff. Charge per team and add prizes, drinks or a raffle.

Pick a book, set a reading target and get sponsored to keep turning those pages. Ideal for anyone who’d rather curl up with a book than run a marathon.

Take to the water and set yourself a distance or endurance challenge. Just make sure you know which way you’re going.

Pick a distance, choose a route and get running. Whether it’s your first run or your hundredth, every mile can raise money.

Take fundraising to the skies and throw yourself out of a perfectly good aeroplane. Terrifying? Yes. Excellent fundraising story? Also yes.

Bring back the school sports day, minus the questionable packed lunches. Organise races, team events and a few suitably ridiculous challenges.

Every time someone drops a swear word into the conversation, they pay up. Particularly effective in competitive offices and during stressful meetings.

Pick a tournament, race or sporting event and run a sweepstake. Participants pay to enter, everyone gets a team or competitor and someone walks away with the prize.

Take the plunge and set yourself a swimming challenge. Pick a distance, pool or open-water adventure and get sponsored for every length.

Pick a theme and get everyone involved. From favourite films to decades, sports teams or something completely ridiculous, charge a small donation to take part.

Mud, obstacles, teamwork and probably a few moments of regret. Get a team together, take on the course and raise money while you’re at it.

Bring the drama of The Traitors to your fundraising. Set up your own game of missions, deception and banishment, with an entry fee or donations from spectators.

Hide the clues, set the teams loose and see who can crack the puzzle first. Charge an entry fee and add a prize for the winning team.

Swim, cycle and run your way through one seriously impressive challenge. Whether you take on a full triathlon or a shorter version, there’s plenty to train for.

For those who look at a marathon and think, yes, but what if it was much longer? Take on an ultramarathon and raise money mile after mile.

Get a group together and walk until you’ve hit your target. Pick a distance, choose a scenic route and get sponsored for every step.

Think you’ve got what it takes to make the record books? Pick a suitably ambitious challenge, gather your team and go for it.

Fly through the air, take in the view and raise money while you’re at it. A good option for anyone who wants an adrenaline rush without quite jumping out of a plane.
