The Electrical Industries Charity offer a variety of training courses to suit your needs. Breaking down the stigma of mental health in our industry can only come through education and understanding and we are passionate about helping you with this.

Our training is based on what we see coming through in our cases and the challenges our industry is facing. All of our courses can be delivered in person or virtually and all of our training is delivered by our highly experienced welfare team and key partners.

We can also work with you to create bespoke courses depending on your specific needs.

Suicide First Aid Lite Training

Teaching the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting, captured in a half-day session.
Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding suicide, suicide behaviours and causes
  • Recognising signs
  • Establishing communication techniques
  • Implementing intervention

Course Details:

Duration: 3.5 hours
Format: Available both virtually (recommended) and in person
Pricing: £100 + VAT per person (virtual open course)

Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention

The Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention course is comprised of 4 parts, each approximately 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide-safety as a first aid approach.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding the foundations of suicide prevention
  • Strategic approaches to suicide intervention
  • Practical skills for supporting individuals
  • Implementing intervention and ensuring safety in suicide prevention

Pre-training requirements:
No previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide.

Mental Health First Aid

Suggested for team leaders, those in positions of high-volume interaction with colleagues and those who are keen to engage. Those who qualify as Mental Health First Aiders will join a support group facilitated by MHFA England and will join the national community of Mental Health First Aiders.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognising poor mental health and implementing early intervention
  • Encouraging identification and access to professional and local support
  • Active listening and demonstrating empathy
  • Addressing stigma and improving mental health literacy
  • Self-care and MHFA role

Mental Health First Aid Refresher

For those who have previously engaged in Mental Health First Aid and wish to renew skillset (suggested: between 2-3 years post-qualification).

Learning Objectives:

  • Renewing skillset
  • Updating knowledge of mental health support
  • Practicing application of Mental Health First Aid action plan

Youth Mental Health First Aid

This course is ideal for anyone who lives with, works with, or supports young people aged 8 to 18 and wants to gain the knowledge, awareness, and skills to spot the signs of a young person experiencing poor mental health, the confidence to start a conversation, and the tools to safeguard and signpost to appropriate support.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain what mental health is ​
  • Describe how to look after their own mental health and wellbeing ​
  • Describe the signs of poor mental health in young people ​
  • Explain some of the risk factors associated with poor mental health in young people ​
  • Demonstrate how to apply the Youth MHFA action plan (ALGEE®) in a Youth Mental Health First Aid conversation ​
  • Describe the role of a Youth MHFAider®
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England®
  • Learn beyond the course through membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®

Managing Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace for Leaders

What you wll learn:

A foundational course covering common mental health conditions, recognising signs, supporting others and managing crisis situations effectively.

Financial Wellbeing & Awareness Training

This course builds confidence in money management, explores the connection between financial and mental health, and offers practical financial planning tools. A check list will be provided to you with a choice of key focuses, for example: pensions, budgeting or investing etc.

Understanding Addiction & Building Resistance

A session that explores the nature of addiction, how it develops, recognising the signs and strategies for resilience and recovery.

Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Awareness Training

Understand key DEI principles, recognise workplace biases and explore strategies for fostering an inclusive and supportive working environment.

Menopause Awareness Training

Increase understanding of menopause, its impact in the workplace and how to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those affected.

Learn how to support colleagues experiencing grief, understand different types of loss and develop confidence in handling sensitive conversations around bereavement.

Managing Workplace Stress

Discover how to confidently support the unique needs of individuals and proactively support their wellbeing. Understand stress and burnout, spot the early warning signs,  understand triggers and implement healthy coping strategies. This course will help you build a supportive, mentally healthy workplace culture.

Understanding the duty to prevent harassment in the workplace (HR, in-house legal and/or senior leaders)

Develop an understanding of what constitutes harassment, reasonable steps defence and legal guidance around the new duty to prevent this within the workplace.

Understanding the legal definition of harassment under UK law, recognising different forms of harassment and consideration of the impact on the workplace.

Preventing and Responding to Harassment in the Workplace (Managers) 

Understanding legal definitions of harassment under UK law, recognising the different forms of harassment and the types of behaviour that may constitute harassment, with a focus on sexual harassment and the impact that harassment has on individuals within the workplace.

Offload: Supporting Males in the Workplace after Baby Loss

Male’s grief matters too but is often overlooked. This training has been designed to help workplaces better understand & support males who have experienced baby loss, whilst exploring the unique challenges that Male’s face.

Apprentice Mental Health Training

The EIC offers its industry-specific training courses to apprentices completely free of charge. There are 15 modules that can be accessed via the EIC Learning Management System.

They cover a variety of topics based on real life cases and include:
