To keep our services available to the industry we rely on organisations to partner with the EIC and help promote our initiatives across the sector, by becoming an EIC champion organisation.

The Electrical Industries Charity offers a free and confidential service for all employees and their immediate families of the electrical and energy industries. We are not government funded and rely solely on donations from the industry to provide our services. We offer a complete service to sector colleagues including financial assistance, mental health support and counselling sessions, will and CV writing as well as a listening ear. The EIC engages psychiatrist, therapists, and family lawyers to delivery support to the industry. We work with other charitable organisations such as Macmillan and the Mental Health Foundation to provide an end-to-end service for those who need support most. Our dedicated team of welfare workers run a free and confidential helpline service 365 days a year and in the last year alone supported more than 19,000 people.

Sometimes it can be difficult to see the glass half full but it has been proven in scientific studies that optimists are healthier and live longer. Become an optimist. It might be raining but at least you won't have to water the plants. Or, in the times of COVID-19, I'm not stuck indoors, I have for the first time in my lifetime to read, watch TV, learn trivia, garden, learn origami... the list is endless!

Here are the key questions we'd like you to answer:

  • Do you want to get your staff more involved with well being initiatives that matter to our industry?
  • As a business have you focused on ‘Safety’ much more than health?
  • Do you have staff who have expressed interest in volunteering, but you don’t know where best to direct their attention?
  • As a business do you have structured well-being programmes that your staff know about and use?
  • Have you rolled out the Charity’s Industry EAP programme to your staff?

If you want to address these questions and have a streamlined programme to offer staff, we propose the following approach:

  • Select an EIC champion at each site or 1 per 50 employees.

  • In order to engage your employees with EIC and our initiatives we propose implimenting one of our ongoing campaigns within your company,
such as the Stand Down Hour, EIC Day and the Workplace Lottery.

  • Make Health your priority alongside safety and train your staff in mental health awareness.
